Summer 1981 - A chance meeting between Stalkers on Loch Ericht (3) - "Newsing" over, the two stalkers carry on with their business. The Drumochter boat certainly looks more suited to the sometimes rough conditions of Loch Ericht. Long and sleek, it must have cut through the waves quite well. However, I remember Donald MacDonald commenting to me as I took this picture that he often wonders why they'd never built any kind of a cabin on board. Anyone who's experienced a gale on Loch Ericht, when six foot waves will break over the bow of a boat, will understand how uncomfortable this boat must have been. The Ben Alder boat (The "Cynthia") was great. It had a nice cabin to sit in after a cold day on the hill and because the diesel motor was in the cabin it could be really warm (and also REALLY noisy. You couldn't talk in the cabin). The trip back from McCooks to the lodge would be enough to dry out clothes soaked after a rainy day on the hill.
