Mr Ian Mac Pherson

Mr Ian Mac Pherson -"The Oicher"- derived form the Gaelic term for "Officer" eg."The Black Officer of Ballachroan". Ian had worked on Ben Alder Estate ealier. He'd become a teacher but opted for a different life as a sort of travelling salesman with his wife Elizabeth. They came to live in "Halfway House" in the late 1930's and traded as "Dalwhinnie Fresh Fruit and Vegetables. They wrote various books - the most apt is "Happy Hawkers" - much about Dalwhinnie. They ran a taxi service for navvies. He was very much behind the move to establish a village hall. Quite a character by all accounts. Killed in an accident in 1944.
